The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) along with the rural development department have selected seven organisations and environmental groups for the eco village development project.
The agencies were required to make a presentation on their work in the area of promoting eco village. The focus will cover villages with a population of more than 10,000. The plan will be implemented with the participation of the local residents of the respective village. The development of each village is to be planned after taking into account the demographic,social,cultural and educational status. Emphasis will be on harnessing various potentials — in the field of industry,ecology and tourism - in each village.
According to MPCB_Pune has the highest number with seven of them being selected for the programme. They will be part of the provisional list readied by the state government for the eco village development project.
In total 32 agencies were selected and the purpose of this selection is ensure that there is development without affecting the natural resources adversely.
The selection of the agencies is part of the eco village development plan,jointly undertaken by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the state department of rural development and water conservation. The plan aims at development of villages without adversely affecting the natural resources. The agencies will be required to give a presentation,based on which the MPCB will select the final names,said the MPCB officials.
Besides the seven agencies from Pune,there are two from Ahmednagar,and one each from Satara,Sangli,Solapur,Chandrapur and Jalgaon. There are also a few agencies from Mumbai,Delhi,Hyderabad and Bangalore.
The role of the MPCB in this project is to prepare environmentally sustainable development plans for the selected villages with the help of identified agencies. The state government would integrate its projects and provide the necessary funds. The scheme is to be implemented with the approval of the gramsabhas.
