See saw: India everywhere

Leading couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla will be celebrated in London with Sotheby’s hosting an exhibition of their designer wear and interior decor from September 3 to 5. The exhibition,titled ‘India Fantastique’,will coincide with the launch of a lavish two-volume publication of the same name (Thames & Hudson Ltd,Rs 7,995),which showcases the duo’s 25-year-old career in partnership. The Fashion volume comprises 11 chapters of Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla designs,followed by two chapters encompassing their specialities — chikankari and zardozi. On the other hand,the Interiors volume presents 15 interiors – ranging from the duo’s own homes in Mumbai and the Himalayas to a monumental private house in New Delhi,a gloriously over-the-top apartment in London and a flamboyant wedding venue in Hyderabad. The exhibition at Sotheby’s will feature their landmark fashion designs set against a backdrop of images from some of their most fabulous and maximalist interiors.

From the author of best selling books like ‘Connect the Dots’ and ‘I have a dream’ comes yet another book ‘Poor Little Rich Slum’,which gives an insight into the invisible characters of the worlds fifth largest slum,Dharavi. Written by Rashmi Bansal and Deepak Gandhi,the book was launched at Crossword,Senapati Bapat Road. “Every day we went to Dharavi,we found something new,” said Gandhi. When asked if the book intends to glorify the ‘Slum Culture’,Gandhi explained,“We have predominantly focused on the positive aspects like the enterprising spirit of the people and have mentioned of the need for development in basic amenities and living standards.”
