Seamless Education, the institute spearheaded by former chairman of University Grants Commissioner (UGC) Ashok Kolaskar and jewellers P N Gadgil, will complete one year on September 30. The institute, known as SeamEdu,is all set to launch courses in four niche career areas -voice over, visual merchandising, family entrepreneurship and wedding planning.

“There are 42 niche careers that do not have formal courses in India. We are trying to bring forth these career opportunities in the form of structured educational courses before the youth,” said Kedar Nigavekar, managing director of SeamEdu. According to him, only 13 percent students who become graduates, opt for courses in engineering, medicine and pharmacy. The rest 87 percent students go for traditional courses in arts, science, and commerce or end up with a diploma. “Our effort behind starting courses in these niche fields is to open up a new range of careers for these 87 percent students,” Nigavekar said. According to him, these courses are expected to start from 2010.

In another venture, the institute had tied up with Adobe to launch Pune’s first Adobe authorised training centre for editing. SeamEdu also plans to launch India’s first Internet radio station ‘Radio Nuts’ soon. “Students in the course at the institute will get to experiment on this station, said Nigavekar. The station’s first commercial tie-up will be with P N Gadgil jewellers. “We will have our own radio that will connect PNG stores in Kothrud and the US,” said Saurabh Gadgil, vice chairman of SeamEdu.
