Cathedral Vidya School,Lonavala (CVSL),Co-educational English Medium Residential School celebrated its Fourth Annual Speech Day on its campus on June 28. The school is nearly 50 km away from Pune. The school also organised graduation ceremony of the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) batch and prize distribution for winners in the annual academic and extracurricular activities. The fourth issue of the annual school magazine,Purple & Black,was also launched on the occasion.
The event was attended by Satyapal Singh (IPS),Commissioner of Police (Mumbai),Jayant Kripalani,actor and filmmaker,and Vineet Nayyar,VP of Tech Mahindra & Satyam. The event started with lighting of the lamp followed by a musical show and a skit by students. Students were honoured with various awards and prizes. Eklavya Award for Excellence was given to Raj Bhagat from IBDP II and Arjuna Award for Excellence was given to Jeh Patel of Class X.
Commenting on the occasion, Snehal Joshi,principal and IBDP coordinator said,We have always encouraged our students through various activities. With this event we wanted to express our appreciation and love towards our students for showing such exemplary results and making us proud. Joshi added,We wish our IBDP batch all the very best for their future and hope they keep on excelling in their respective fields.
Satyapal Singh said,Students here are so full of energy and passion. I feel extremely proud to see such young and talented minds at work with of course the right guidance. I wish the children all the best for the future and I hope they keep achieving milestones on the path they choose.
Jayant Kriplani Jain said,It has been a phenomenal experience,interacting with the students. They are very focused on their goals. With such a positive environment at the school,and events like these,I am sure they will excel in academic as well as extra-curricular activities.
The event also saw the launch of Head Girl Shreya Sekhsariyas first Novel ,ONE.
The Cathedral Vidya School has been set up in collaboration with The Cathedral and John Connon School,Mumbai,(1860),which is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in India. The School has nurtured minds as diverse as JRD Tata,Ratan Tata,Anand Mahindra,Salman Rushdie,Anita and Kiran Desai,Fareed Zakaria,Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Students felicitated at SPM School
SPM School felicitated the toppers of SSC exam and other meritorious students of High School Scholarship,MTS and Mathex exams conducted in the year 2012-13.
Anurag Kashyap,Principal of Banubai Nanavati College of Architecture,was the chief guest at the event. He encouraged the students to actively participate in both academics and co-curricular activities. He said students should enjoy all aspects of life to make it meaningful.
Member of Managing Council of SP Mandali,Prof CR Argade,presided over the function and appreciated the students performance. Parents of students also shared their feelings.
Muktangan gets Silverzone award
Muktagan English School & Junior College received the Institution of the Year 2012 award instituted by the Silverzone Organisation,New Delhi. The school was awarded a memento and a certificate for its substantial contribution in the field of education.
Director RP Joshi,the then Principal of the school was adjudged the Silverzone Educationist of the Year (2011-12). His award included a memento,a certificate and cash prize. The award recognises Joshis pioneering role in pro-actively addressing education-related issues.
Science Olympiad Foundation awards
Science Olympiad Foundation organised its 16th International Award ceremony to felicitate the winners of Olympiad exams for the year 2012-13 in Delhi. Justice R C Lahoti,former Chief Justice of India,was the chief guest and Prof Y S Rajan,chairman of NIT Manipur,was the guests of honour. Charlie Walker,Director Programmes,British Council India,also attended the event,besides Swami Nikhilananda Saraswati of Acharaya Chinmaya Mission. Awards were given to the top three international rank holders from classes I – XII in the four Olympiad exams. Winners from classes VII-XII won Rs 50,000 each,the rank two holders won Rs 25,000 each and rank three holders won Rs 10,000. Winners from Classes I- VI were awarded i-Pads. In addition,attractive gifts were given to all winners. Top 10 principals and top 40 teachers whose students put up an excellent performance were also felicitated with cash awards,mementos & citations.
Six students from Pune secured ranks at the Olympiad exams. Three students from Podar International School Advait A Kadam,GargieD’souza and Diya Gupta secured 1st,3rd and 25th rank at the international-level,respectively. Varun Desai from Vibgyor High School secured second rank at the international level. Aatmika A Chawla (Hutchings High School And Junior College) and KshipraLowalekar (VikhePatil Memorial School) secured 8th and 9th ranks respectively.
Mahabir Singh,founder and executive director of SOF,said, As many as 24,000 students from 1,050 cities across India and 14 countries have been awarded for achieving top state-level ranks. In addition,close to 3,50,000 students have been awarded Medals of Excellence for achieving top rank in their respective schools. Also,certificate of participation and performance report has been given to each students. SOF spends about Rs 8 crore towards awards,scholarships and training programmes. For 2012-13,close to 25,000 schools registered for the 4 Olympiads and millions of students appeared in them.
Justice R C Lahotimet students who won prizes and received certificates in the final stage of subject Olympiads. Lahoti and Rajan gave out the prizes expressing gratitude for their work. In their speech,the guests stressed that the most important resource the nation has is its intellectual potential,which is not only inexhaustible,but will multiply and obtain new qualities in case of proper use. They added that it is also among the most reliable guarantees for the dynamic economic development. SOF is the largest conductor of Olympiads in Asia.The British Council and BBC Knowledge are associated with SOF for the Olympiads. SOF aims to identify,motivate and reward talent and performance at the international,state and school levels. It attempts to develop a spirit of competitiveness among students and prepares the students to face competition at different levels.
In addition to conducting Olympiads,SOF also provides an annual scholarship of Rs 5,000/ each to 300 meritorious girl children from economically weaker sections under the Girl Child Scholarship Scheme (GCSS). It also provides scholarship of Rs 5,000 each to 120 students excelling in English language.
SOF has been sending students to Singapore to attend a Computing Programme in association with the National University of Singapore. It conducts teachers training programs,through British Council,to share improved educational techniques with teachers.
It organises various other training programmes,camps and exhibitions.
SOF has been conducting exams since past 16 years. It encourages development of a scientific aptitude through innovative activities and use of information technology in the learning process across the globe. SOF conducts four Olympiad exams which include:
