There is no better time and no better excuse than Diwali to bedeck yourself in elegant Indian wear.

There is no better time and no better excuse than Diwali to bedeck yourself in elegant Indian wear. Teaming style and elegance, tradition and modernity, designers are working overtime weaving patterns and designs out of rich fabrics. Sarees and lehengas can hardly be resisted during this festive period, but the masters of attire have their focus directed to the dazzling choli and ravishing blouse.

Silks, crepes, brocades are being groomed into well-fitted blouses and these all important pieces of garment can make or break your look this season. Under the garb of tradition, designers are churning out blouses that have contemporary designs, modern hues and trendy styling. Designer Radhika More flaunts her festive collection and the pieces that stand out are the brocade blouses with zippers in front. Gone are the days of those chaste hooks to hold the blouse together. This young designer says,“Blouses with zippers are very in right now. They can be teamed with sarees or lehengas and thus serve the dual purpose of a blouse and choli . There is also a beautiful mix of fabrics being used now for the blouses. That lends a contrast to the saree and lehenga colour. See,people nowadays want a surprise element in their blouses.”

Natasha Kelkar,an MBA student, has an entirely new wardrobe of Indian wear. “My sister is getting married plus it’s Diwali. That’s why I had to get new clothes stitched,” she says. And among those gorgeous, bright designs sitting pretty in her cupboard are a couple of cholis . She smiles,“ Cholis are meant for a knockout Indian look. Mine are stringy at the back and they are slightly longer than the usual. The combination of different brocades and patterns adds this whole zing to the saree.” More gives a thumbs-up to the longer length of her blouses. She adds,“Apart from longer blouses, women are even choosing to wear jackets with their sarees. It’s a contemporary look that’s really catching on.”

While the front zipper still remains the hottest blouse trend,it is closely followed by the racer back blouses. More explains,“It’s like a vest – a deep in-cut at the back. It fits like a t-shirt and is getting quite popular.” Designer Moushmi Sanas loves the detailing on these blouses. “The use of Swarovski crystals and other stones accentuates the whole look. Even tie-ups and tassles work well for the back of the blouses and cholis ,” she says. A sexy back is a definite yes,but so is a defined front. Sanas adds,“The princess cut in the front is very comfortable.” Also, another detail that can make heads turn and women eye the design with envy is the sheer, long sleeve of the blouse. “Any sheer fabric on the sleeves adds a beautiful aura to the look. Net is a great option,” she suggests. Well, wait no longer. If you haven’t already fallen in line with these trends,it’s time you get your festive act together and splurge on these must-have cholis.
