Rework water management plan: civic body

The Pune Municipal Corporation has urged the irrigation department to rework the management of water supply to the civic body to ensure it lasts till July-end.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has urged the irrigation department to rework the management of water supply to the civic body to ensure it lasts till July-end. In a letter to the department, municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak said it was decided that the PMC should lift 950 MLD daily from March 1 so that storage in reservoirs lasts till end of July.

From March 1,the civic body started water cuts in parts of the city but it was restricted to a certain limit to meet minimum demands of citizens,Pathak said. “There is a need of at least 1,250 MLD for the city daily and it is not possible to implement water cuts below this limit. Thus, the irrigation department should rework water supply management so that water lasts till July-end even after the civic body lifts 1,250 MLD every day,” said Pathak. Water supply department officials said if there are more water cuts,it might affect the system adversely and lead to a technical snag in the water supply network across the city.
