Glass stained pictures of Ryan Giggs,Paul Scholes,Rio Ferdinand,Wayne Rooney and the ensemble cast of Sir Alex Fergusson’s team, popularly known as Manchester United (MU),make for the entrance of the newly opened Manchester United Cafe Bar. Located at the Amanora Town Centre, the Cafe Bar,which opened on September 22,is done up in the team colours of red and black.
Walking into the 5000 sq ft place,a total of 11 plasma screens play various games from the club’s achievements over the years, along with interviews with both former and current players. A giant 250-inch screen alters between showing snap shots of some of the clubs best goals to cheering fans from the Old Trafford stadium. The huge pool table at the lounge area, completes the settings for the place. The idea is to provide a MU Lifestyle experience similar to the ones in places like Singapore,Thailand,London and other places in the world where the restaurant chain operates, say the owners. The indoors offer a total seating space of around 130 and the outdoors around 70 at any given time of the day.
Some of the highlights of the place include small things like the cocktail stirrers, the paper table mats and even the cardboard coasters. The stirrers are designed with the little ‘Red Devil’ logo (in black though) on top,the table mats showcase the 2008 champions league, and the English Premier League winning team photograph with the words OT 100 (Old Trafford) emblazoned at the bottom, which was taken during the centenary year celebrations of the team and the coasters are hexagonal in shape with the MU crest on it.
The place in addition to offering the right ambiance for a football fanatic, also dishes out a mean collection of cocktails, mocktails and a large spread of Indian,Continental and Chinese dishes on its menu. Considering the fact that it is brand extension of the football club,we really were under the impression of spotting dishes and drinks named after some of United’s greatest. But the menu had some familiar names such as Goan styled chicken sausages, deep fried prawns, galouti kebabs, mini pizzas, mushroom quiches and more. The taste however was refreshingly delightful and for the low pricing that the restaurants are known for across the globe, they did justice to their tastes.
The outsides of the restaurant were peaceful with the United Wembley anthem playing on in a preppy loop. Having just opened its doors, with its clean napery and shining cutlery, the place is sure to charm football lovers. Interestingly, the first game to be telecast kicks off on Sunday,September 23,when United take on their long standing rivals, the Merseyside dwellers,Liverpool.
