Quarry workers get ration cards

A total of 500 quarry labourers were granted ration card by the district collectorate on Sunday. The quarry workers association has been demanding for ration cards since 2007,but it was only now that the request has been granted. “We have got the ration cards after a long struggle. But lately,there has been a problem of lack of supply at the public distribution system (PDS),” said B M Rege,president of quarry workers association in a press release.

Now,the next move for these workers is to push for adequate supply of groceries at the PDS. “These are difficult times. There is an economic slowdown and work has reduced substantially. Families are dependent on the PDS for food supply,but the supply has been poor and in some instances non-existant,” said Rege.
