Civic health officer Dr Anil Roy came under fire from corporators at the PCMC general body meet last week as he had criticised them on Facebook. Led by Datta Sane, the corporaors demanded to know who had asked Roy for money in order for him to get a promotion. However,NCP corporators, led by Yogesh Behl, intervened and managed to pacify the agitated lot. Civic officials, however, said corporators are angry with Dr Roy as he had announced on the social networking site how officers pay corporators bribes to get a promotion – a fact spoken in very hush tones in civic corridors. Corporators in the law committee had stalled Roys promotion and this standoff had been going on for over a month. Civic officials said senior corporators like R S Kumar,Mangala Kadam and R S Kumar should take the lead in ending the matter or else the image of PCMC would take a hit.
Hospital struggles after top guns exit
The biggest civic run hospital is struggling to get its act together, especially after Dr Nagkumar Kunachgi,Dr Rajshekhar Iyer and Dr Anand Jagdale retired from their posts. They were known for their administrative skills and ensured the smooth functioning of the hospital. The new YCM Hospital medical superintendent,Dr M M Deshmukh, and his deputy Dr Prahlad Bhagathave been fighting to keep the hospital running after they were appointed two months ago. They have been further hampered by the transfer of medical officers Dr Sunil John and Dr S Bhausar. Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi transferred them for doing a good job over the years, doctors said. Adding to their woes,a junior staffer is trying to call the shots at YCM hospital. Since they are new, both Deshmukh and Bhagat are not in a position to say anything to this staffer who apparently also keeps the commissioner updated about the latest from YCMH, said an employee.
Hotels up in arms against police
After the sex racket was exposed recently by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III),hotels and lodges in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Hinjewadi area have been hit hard. The police said the sex racket was thriving in hotels and lodges in Sangvi,Pimple Saudagar,Dange chowk,Thergaon and in Hinjewadi areas. Youngsters, especially college youths, frequent them. After the racket was exposed, the police raided several hotels and lodges but did not find any flesh trade. Emboldened by this, hoteliers are planning to launch an agitation against unnecessary police interference. Our business has been hit hard. There is no flesh trade happening in our hotels. If adult couples voluntary come here for a brief stay, how can we be accused of indulging in the flesh trade? one hotelier asked. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shahaji Umap said the raids would continue as the police want to curb the trade in the area. The hoteliers are planning to rope in MP Gajanan Babar to lead their march just as he had done in the past.
Tailpiece
A female doctor and retired nurse, both neighbours at a residential society in Pimpri-Chinchwad,indulged in a noisy quarrel over putting clothes to dry on a rope on Friday. Residents from the society remained mute spectators as both the women refused to stop fighting. The nurse went a step forward, tearing some clothes which belonged to the doctors family. Not to be outdone, the doctor replied in the same fashion. The nurse left in a huff, ending the quarrel before the police could arrive.
