With an aim to introducing bariatric surgery to those who are excessively overweight and have been struggling to cut down their kilos,Columbia Asia Hospital,Pune,is organizing a public programme on July 14.
The programme,to be held at O Hotel,Koregaon Park,at 3.30 pm,will be attended by experts apart from anyone who would want to take the benefit of the programme.
Bariatric surgery is a procedure that allows dangerously obese people to lose weight by reducing the size of their stomach through various kinds of surgery. This effectively cuts down the food intake of the patient and results in weight loss. If one religiously follows the diet and exercise recommended by the doctor after the surgery,he or she can effectively maintain the correct weight.
This surgery can help people suffering from obesity-linked ailments like heart diseases, diabetes and orthopaedic issues and are in serious need to reduce weight in order to survive or live a healthy life.
This open programme is part of our efforts to reach out to people in the city who may be looking for help and reliable advice. Obesity is becoming a serious concern in todays world and awareness drives like these will help people find ways to tackle it. We at Columbia Asia Hospital believe that as healthcare providers, our role extends beyond just providing treatment to visiting patients. Our role also entails filling the gap of reliable advisers and awareness generators on relevant issues, says Dr Sunil Rao,General Manager,Columbia Asia Hospital,Pune.
The bariatric team is led by Dr Shashank Shah,a pioneer Laparoscopic Bariatric & Metabolic Surgeon, who is the President of Obesity Surgery Society of India.
At the interactive session,Dr Shashank Shah and others will address people looking for options to surgery and help them arrive at an informed decision.
