In keeping with its tradition of celebrating Daughters Day every year coinciding with the birth month of the illustrious (Late) Kalpana Chawla,the PRCI,Pune chapter organised an event at the Royal Connaught Boat Club Road on July 30.
The chief guest for the event was Arjuna awardee Rekha Bhide,who represented India in womens hockey.
Addressing the gathering,Shabnam Asthana,chairperson of PRCI ( Public Relations Council Of India) Pune Chapter,said,Modern Indian women have broken all barriers to carve a niche for themselves by essaying multiple roles of wife,daughter,business executive and so on,which they perform with ease. They have risen from their marginal lives to carve an indispensable role for themselves.
Rekha Bhide,the president of Hockey Maharashtra and vice-president of Hockey India,spoke about how important it is to honour and respect women.
She expressed her concern against the rampant practice of female foeticide and called on the citizens for a united stand against the practice.
As part of the event,a dance performance by the girls of SOS Childrens Village,Yerwada,enthralled the audience. As a token of encouragement and appreciation,PRCI awarded the girls with a small donation and gifts that were sponsored by the Encore Group of Pune.
