In order to speed up the administrative services given to citizens, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to start an independent training centre for the civic staff that will improve their skills in handling issues in a professional manner.
“The short training course for civic staff at regular interval has been yielding good results. The staff which underwent training have been able to carry out their work at a faster pace,” said municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade.
A separate centre dedicated for training the civic staff would be started this year so that it will help in improving the performance of the staff,he added.
The PMC will start implementing the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations from this month with a pay hike for all the employees. A training programme for the accounts department staff was conducted to implement the system with new salary structure.
Zagade said the sixth sigma management system is the best among all other practices, adding,”We need to adopt a system that is mistake-free.
The PMC Labour department too organises training workshops for all its staff throughout the city to improve their performance.
It also took up an initiative to ensure good physical and mental health for all the civic staff by organizing yoga sessions in all its gardens and parks across the city.
Last year,a mass yoga session under the guidance of Baba Ramdev was also organised by the civic body at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Swargate. The PMC had also undertaken English language speaking course for its staff so that they could communicate with the increasing cosmopolitan community in the city.
The civic body has been conducting special health camps for its conservancy staff that are exposed to filth while performing their duty.
