PMC to pull down 150 structures in restricted area of Lohegaon airport

Following a PIL, the HC had directed PMC in June last year to take action against the structures within one year.

With a month left for the deadline set by Bombay HC to take action against buildings that have come up in the restricted zone (within 1,000 yards) of Lohegaon Airforce Station, the PMC has decided to demolish 150 structures under police protection.

Following a PIL, the HC had directed PMC in June last year to take action against the structures within one year. The PMC undertook a survey and identified 150 such buildings, of which 89 are in Khulewadi slums, 24 in Khulewadi gaothan, 20 in Khese Park, 10 in Kalwad, six in Forest Park, and one on Nagar Road.

“The action has been planned in May last week. There are people occupying these structures, and to avoid a law and order situation, police have been asked to provide adequate protection,” said a civic officer. ens
