After intensifying it for a while, the Pune Municipal Corporations (PMC) drive against illegal structures has been slowed down by the civic administration.
Admitting that the drive is not as intense as it was a few days ago,a civic officer said,The action is on but on a small scale.
The civic administration officials said there is pressure from political parties to go slow during festive season. The elected representatives do not want any controversy in their respective areas during the festive season, he said.
The civic body had intensified the drive against illegal constructions after eleven persons were killed in a building collapse at Taljai Pathar. The action had been taken against structures that were being illegally constructed on small plots.
The corporators had made efforts to stop the drive but the administration went ahead and later had to face criticism for restricting its action to small plots and not initiating any action against builders. The administration maintained that builders do not carry out illegal constructions as they seek valid permission.
However,it was found that a few builders had illegally constructed additional floors on the buildings.
The civic body has urged the builders to pull down the illegally constructed floors of the buildings or get it legalised through valid procedure.
