PM Modi’s posters still adorn Pune railway station even after 48 hours of Model Code of Conduct coming into effect
Government officials said all political posters must be removed within 48 hours of the MCC taking effect.

The Pune railway station has yet to fully remove posters and banners featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi even after 48 hours of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) coming into effect with the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 schedule.
As soon as the MCC comes into effect, political parties in power at the Centre and states must ensure the cessation of scheme advertisements and political campaigns. According to government officials, all political posters must be removed within 48 hours of the MCC taking effect.

However, the Pune railway station still has some posters of PM Modi, although the officials had removed some on Monday afternoon. A railway official said that almost all the banners had been removed, and all portraits of PM Modi had been painted white. The PM’s photos in the stalls of the “One Station, One Product” initiative have also been hidden, and selfie points with PM’s posters have also been removed.
However, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Milind Hirve said that they are still in the process of removing and hiding all political faces in the station premises. “By evening, we will remove the remaining posters,” he said.

In addition to the station, trains passing through the Pune railway station have also been observed with small posters and stickers of the G20 event.
The Election Commission of India announced on Saturday that the country would vote in seven phases in the Lok Sabha elections, from April 19 to June 1, and the results would be announced on June 4. With this, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect.

Maharashtra will see the election in five phases from April 19 to May 20 in 48 constituencies.
