No rehab for slumdwellers on MIDC land
The state government has stayed its own order of allowing rehabilitation of slums in the MIDC area of Pimpri-Chinchwad-Bhosari. Pimpri-Chinchwad Chamber of Industries Commerce,Services and Agriculture president Appasaheb Shinde said the government had earlier allowed the Slum Rehabilitation Authority to rehabilitate the slum-dwellers. “However, after we pointed out to the government that the land encroached by slumdwellers in MIDC area was meant for various amenities and education purposes of industrial workers,it recently stayed its own order,” he said. In the civic general body meeting held last week,BJP-Shiv Sena sought the registration of FIR against three NCP corporators who allegedly manhandled BJP corporator Bhima Bobade after a ruckus over supplying water to temple town of Alandi. The Opposition held a rasta roko in Pimpri demanding action against the corporators. Bobade, who had rushed to the Mayor’s chair and tried to snatch his mace, was pulled down by three corporators. And there is no question of any action against the corporators as there was no quarrel and no one was injured,” he said. However, the Opposition said it would continue its agitation.
