Mayor orders probe into mishap during Pimpri ringan ceremony
The historic ringan ceremony of Sant Tukaram palkhi at HA ground in Pimpri was marred after bulls ran into the crowd and injured three persons. Mayor Yogesh Behl said he has asked officials to probe the incident and take action against those responsible. “We took lot of effort to hold the first ever ringan ceremony,but this incident spoiled all the good work, said an agitated mayor.
PCMC veterinary chief Dr Satish Gore said his department was trying to find out who let the animals into the ground when it was cleared well before the ceremony began.
Ringan every year in Pimpri?
Staying with the first ever ringan ceremony held in Pimpri-Chinchwad,Mayor Yogesh Behl,at whose initiative it was held,said he would request the Dehu Devasthan Trust to allow the PCMC to hold the ceremony every year. “Lakhs of people had turned up the ringan. The palkhi’s stay for one day saw thousands queueing up for a darshan. The town’s bhakti way of life was very much on display. We need such atmosphere,” he said. Meanwhile,the PCMC initiative has drawn praise from citizens,activists and social organisations who have joined the clamour for the ceremony to be held every year in town.
Sena,BJP protest fuel price hike
The Shiv Sena and the BJP units in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Saturday held a symbolic funeral procession of cylinders in protest against the Central Government’s decision to hike LPG prices. The protests which were held separately at Chapekar Chowk and in Yamunanagar drew curious crowds as Sena and BJP leaders and workers shouted slogans during the processions. In fact,several citizens too joined in. Sena leader Sulbha Ubale said the anger among citizens,especially women,was palpable. “We will hold such protests in future too,” said Ubale.
