Pimpri-Chinchwad to get satellite campus of IIM Nagpur on 70 acre land in Moshi
Reacting to the update, Director of IIM Nagpur Bhimaraya Metri told The Indian Express, “It is great news that IIM Nagpur campus is coming to Pune.

The state government on Thursday announced the establishment of a satellite campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur on a 70-acre site at Moshi in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Reacting to the update, Director of IIM Nagpur Bhimaraya Metri told The Indian Express, “It is great news that IIM Nagpur campus is coming to Pune. We have a lot of plans for the Pune campus, including a planned flagship program–Data Science and Management.” When asked about the timeline, Metri said that the Pune campus can be expected to become operational within the next 24-30 months.
On the institute’s vision for the city, Metri expounded, “Pune is the biggest manufacturing hub and one of the top five IT hubs of the country. So that is where we are going for specialization in the flagship program for Pune, for working professionals to sharpen their skill. Our executives work in Hinjewadi, Talegaon, Ranjangaon, Magarpatta city, Hinjewadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad. IIM Nagpur is going to be a central point.”
He added that after the inauguration of the VAMNICOM temporary campus in Pune over three years ago, IIM Nagpur had requested for land to set up a permanent campus which has now been allocated by the government.
Remarking that Pune has historically been the educational and cultural capital of the country, Metri said, “To sharpen the skill of this concentrated area of employees working for the industry, we thought instead of industry coming to the institution, the institution should be going to industry. And today, lifelong learning has become a norm. Because in this disruptive world, technology is bringing the change with AI, 3D printing, and cloud computing. Work is redefined. Routine jobs are being automated and non-routine, non-repetitive jobs are going to increase because technology and humans work together in partnership.”
With the main campus of IIM Nagpur currently undergoing a Rs 250 crore expansion, the director also mentioned that IIMs are self-funded institutes after the government’s initial help for construction. He said, “IIM Nagpur is the fastest growing amongst all IIMs. Our revenue has grown at 40.82% CAGR.”
Making the announcement, state Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated, “As we commemorate the vibrant occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the foundation for IIM Nagpur’s satellite campus in Pimpri-Chinchwad marks an auspicious milestone for our city. This industrial hub, home to residents from across the country and renowned for its robust Mumbai-Pune connectivity, will gain further distinction with this prestigious institution.”
The land acquisition process is underway, with officials committed to accelerating development.
