Belgium-based pianist Seenu Singh will showcase his devotion to music at a city performance

Twenty-six-year-old pianist Seenu Singh’s tryst with the piano dates back when he was just six years old. The Bhopal-born musician, who has been residing in Belgium for the last 20 years, says,“We had a huge piano in our house as my parents wanted to learn how to play it. Eventually,I took to it as I found it very fascinating.” On December 16,Singh will give his third concert in the city at the Mazda Hall,Camp.

“Till my high school,I wasn’t sure of taking this up as a career. On the insistence of my teacher,I applied at the Royal Conservatory of Flanders in Antwerp. It has proved to be a very fulfilling career,” he says. Since graduating in 2008,Singh has performed around the world and won several awards. His Chopin and Beethoven recitals have been selected by the Government of Flanders to be part of their programme of ‘New Talent’,an initiative which selects and promotes promising young artistes throughout Belgium. He has toured Belgium,India,Malaysia and Scotland and been invited to perform at the prestigious Festival of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in The Netherlands,Festival Pulptuur in Belgium and the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland. This year,he was also invited by the Hungarian and Belgian embassies in Estonia to perform ‘Liszt Recitals’ to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Liszt as well as 20 years of the diplomatic relations between Belgium and Estland. One of these concerts was organised in a prestigious auditorium in Tartu, where Franz Liszt himself gave three concerts in 1842.

Singh is modest when one mentiones the connection that he establishes with his audience. “A lot of people ask me why I chose to learn western classical music over Indian classical music. Truth is that one just needs to play music honestly and with full devotion. Then, people everywhere can relate to it,” he says.
