“Tariffs are an overwhelming benefit to our Nation, as they have been incredible for our National Security and Prosperity (like nobody has ever seen before!). Losing our ability to Tariff other countries who treat us unfairly would be a terrible blow to the United States of America,” Trump’s Truth Social post read.

White House fact sheet on Trump’s tariffs

On Wednesday, the White House published a fact sheet on Trump’s tariffs.

“On Day One, President Trump established his America First Trade Policy to make America’s economy great again,” it said.

“President Trump has repeatedly used Section 232 tariffs to protect against threats to our national security and to strengthen manufacturing critical for our national and economic security, including on steel, aluminium, copper, and autos,” the fact sheet noted.

According to the White House, President Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs to take back America’s economic sovereignty, address nonreciprocal trade relationships that threaten our economic and national security, and to remedy the consequences of nonreciprocal trade.
