Paraplegic rehabilitation centre celebrates fourth anniversary
The Paraplegic Rehabilitation centre located in Khadki recently celebrated the fourth year of their establishment. The event was held at their Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre,hall on Tuesday in the evening at 5.30 pm.

On the occasion,the Jeevan Gaurav Puruskar was also given to Brig (retd) KG Pitre at the hands of Dr S Gokhale,and Lt Gen (retd) YD Sahastrabuddhe.

Donation made to Baba Amte’s Anandvan
The Rotary Club of Shivajinagar made a donation of Rs 1 lakh to Anandvan,Baba Amte’s rehabilitation centre for leprosy patients wherein the chairman of the Cosmos bank handed over the Cheque to Kaustubh Amte on their behalf.

Speaking more about the event,Kiran Walimbe,president of the Rotary Club of Shivajinagar said,“The donation was made basically to help fund the projects of the Maharogi Sewa Samiti which was founded for the psychological,social and the financial rehabilitation of the patients.” Speaking on the occasion Kaustubh Amte of Anandvan said,“Close to 3000 people who are leprosy patients stay at Anandvan. With the free medical treatment,and the various self-help projects we are able to ensure self-sufficiency and for the people here. We however have started an ambitious project under the Maharogi Sewa Samiti,warora that has a total cost of Rs 38 crores. The rehabilitation centres,which will be built for the patients,will include four centres for medical aid,education in agriculture and technology,self-employment and eye surgery camps.”

Ganga book launched by Baba Ramdev
Spiritual leader baba Ramdev recently launched the second edition of the book ‘Ganga’,which is a Marathi translation of the book by the same name by writer,Julian Hollick. Speaking on the occasion Baba Ramdev spoke about the environmental issues plaguing the river Ganga and its surroundings. He also spoke about rainwater harvesting and treating plants and animals as equals and living in unison and harmony with nature.

Free health camps organised
The Red Cross Society on the occasion of the World Red Cross day organised a series of camps which included a free orthopedic and an X-ray camp for orthopedic patients,a free medical check up Serum Feritin Test for Thalassemic children.

“The society has been established in India in the year 1920 and has now completed 88 years of providing medical and relief services. In addition to this the organisation also provides disaster management and disaster relief work,medical services for children and people in rural areas,HIV and AIDS programme,blood storage and distribution and also free blood transfusion service for children who are Thalassemic,” said a spokesperson for the organisation on the occasion.

Rotary International meet held
A meeting of the Rotary International was held recently to discuss the worldwide impact and work done by the Rotary International group. Speaking on the occasion president,Rotary International Ashok Mahajan said,“It is due to the joint effort of close to 1.2 million Rotarians that over 33,000 communities worldwide have benefited. Moreover we hope to continue the good work for tackling humanitarian problems.”He also spoke about the aims and objectives of the organisation,which mainly included service to humanity,community,nation and the world at large. He also encouraged people to take up social causes more seriously and participate in activities,which would be beneficial to those who are less fortunate.

Family counselling centre inaugurated
The Kutumb Kalyan counselling centre was recently inaugurated at the hands of MLA Sharad Dhamale. The centre,which is located on Sinhagad road,at Anand Nagar,will aim mostly at solving problems of families and also address women on the issue of women empowerment. Speaking more about the centre,Sadhna Khare founder of the centre said,“The main aim of the organisation is to help families overcome their problems or cope up with issues that they are struggling with. In addition to this free counselling will also be provided to women regarding issues related to them and also marital problems.
