The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sought Prime Minister Mamohan Singhs intervention in getting the Central Urban Development Ministry to fast forward assistance for development projects in the city.
I have sought time with the Prime Minister to discuss development issues of the city. There are a few projects for which the Centre needs to help the civic body, said Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal. He said the Prime Minister had assured that he would soon respond to the request.
Meanwhile,a delegation of the city Congress led by party chief Abhay Chhajed submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, requesting funds and clearance for the Metro and Monorail projects for the city.
The delegation apprised the Prime Minister that a detailed project report for the Metro has been submitted to the state government whereas a DPR is under preparation for the Monorail project.
According to Chhajed, the Prime Minister said Pune needed a good transport system and the he will look into the matter.
In its memorandum, the Congress said Pune is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. As the pace of development and growth of population has been increasing over the last five years,it has resulted in enormous increase of vehicles on the road making Pune roads congested. Traffic jams have become frequent and a comprehensive public transport system was a burning need,it said.
