Master of Spin!

DJ Blackjack! on being an "approachable" DJ and why he calls himself a "Bikers' Rocker".

This DJ likes to call himself Blackjack!,yes, exclamation mark included. It makes the name unique and bold he feels. On August 14,he will be in the city playing at Sam’s Grill and Bar,Corinthians Club,at a tribute show to Bob Marley. Rock and blues will flow over at brunch as well as in the evening.

Blackjack! has been in the profession for two decades, and he has mastered the art of being a complete entertainer. “I started my career in 1988 as a DJ in The Black Cadillac,Secunderabad. I felt the need to do something bigger and better,so I started on the Blackjack! Experience,” he says, explaining how he gave his solo shows a new twist. “I am a very approachable DJ. I don’t just sit in the corner and play music. DJ-ing is about connecting with the audience,it’s more than music. In the Blackjack! Experience,I play quizzes, give out goodies and interact with my audience.”

Setting out to make a career as a Disc Jockey back in 1988 was an unusual choice, but Blackjack! claims to have benefited from his decision. “Twenty years ago, there were only a few pubs and even fewer DJs. Fortunately for me,there was no struggle. But nowadays, with the industry booming, there is too much competition.” He describes himself as a ‘Bikers’ Rocker’,and plays regularly for ‘Ridermani’,the Royal Enfeild Bullet Club’s party which is celebrated across the country,as well as at the Royal Enfield Corporate party in Goa every year. “I play across all genres of music, though I personally love unwinding with blues and reggae. Could you be loved by Marley is an all-time-favourite,” says Blackjack!.
