It is possible to get a complete style makeover with a hair cut in as less as five minutes” says internationally acclaimed hairstylist Javed Habib,speaking about his passion for giving designer hair cuts to customers. In the city to inaugurate the first exclusive outlet of the Beauty Aesthetic Academy (BAA) at the hair express salon at Dr Heregar Park,near Kamala Nehru Park Habib spoke in detail about the great leaps that the profession has made from just being hair cutting to hair styling and designing.

“My father got me enrolled in London at the Morris School of Hair Dressing and from there on my journey as a hair dresser took off”,he says. Coming from a conventional family of hairdressers his father and grandfather had quite a lot of famous clients,which included the likes of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Lord Louis Mountbatten. “It’s a 100-year old tradition in the family. My grandfather opened a salon in 1905 in Delhi and since then we have been known for our profession,” says Habib.

He feels that the world of a hairdresser has changed much since the early days of hair styling. “It was just baal katna in my grandfather’s days. Now it’s a profession,” he says,adding,”We are today a brand recognised not only in the country,but throughout Asia. I want to make it a global brand. That is my vision.”

Habib does add that the fame hasn’t come without hard work. “The popularity for our brand rests on the fact that one needs to read individual needs carefully,going beyond seasonal trends,and the straightjacket fit meant for all,” he says. He also feels that creativity always gets its due recognition once artistes start changing the traditional meaning of style. “And hairstyle does not only mean haircut,rather it has a deep relationship with one’s personality,” he adds on a concluding note.
