Man ends life,in-laws arrested

A 25-year-old man allegedly set himself ablaze following harassment by in-laws. The deceased Sham Narayan Alhat was a resident of Taljai Vasahat in Sahakar Nagar. Police arrested Alhat’s mother-in-law Meena Bharat Adagale,father-in-law Bharat Adagale and brother-in-law Sunny Adagale on Tuesday. The suspects were produced before the court on Wednesday. Bharat Adagale was remanded in magisterial custoday and Meena and Sunny Adagale in police custody till March 6.

Alhat,a rag-picker,set himself on fire on February 23,had received 80 per cent burns and succumbed to his injuries on February 26. His brother Dattatraya Narayan Alhat lodged a complaint of abetting suicide against his in-laws on Tuesday. Sub inspector N M Sawant of Sahakar Nagar police station said Alhat was staying at his in-laws’ house since 2006.
