The annual flower show at Empress Garden Buds n Blooms is a treat for gardening enthusiasts and nature lovers
They say Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. But then there are things,beauty of which is undisputed. The Empress Garden Flower Show 2010 that kickstarted at the garden on Friday is one such event that can be truly defined in two words an amalgamation of fragility and colour. Titled Buds n Blooms,the three-day annual event will witness a grand display of countless species of flowers and plants along with activities such as demonstrations,talks and street plays.
This is the biggest flower show in the Western India and rather than keeping it limited to just flowers and plants,we have introduced a number of other activities that are environment centric,yet entertaining. For instance,the whole event has been planned in a manner that it can make a memorable day out for all the members of the family. Not only that,various elements such as art,music and craft are unveiled amidst the picturesque amibiance of the garden, says Amit Pokarna,trustee,The Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India,the organisers of the show.
With over 70 stalls from across the country,the show has on display some of the rarest varieties of plans and flowers. We have come all the way from Darjeeling to display some of the rare plans such as ferns,agilia,jet plant,lily,orchids and so on. Between Rs 50 to 20,000 the varieties can be used both indoor as well as outdoor, says the owener of Ratna Rani Nursery.
Also eye catching are countless artifacts created using plants,grass strands nd dry leaves. For instance,Kajals studio has on display colourful and artistic creations such as exotic dry flower arrangements,festive items,home decoration items,glass vases,terracotta products and so on. Firdesh Roowalla has put on display kitchen composting pots that help one decompost the waste generated from the kitchen which in turn can be used as manure for plants.
Not only that,a number of stalls at the venue can spoil garden lovers for choice with the tools they have on the show rack. We have all the gardening tools such as the seeds,hedge cutters,pots,sprinklers and so on. Not only that,we also have the cocoa flour that can be used for growing domestic plants, says B R Parekh,owner,Universal home Gardening Shoppee.
The exhibition is open at Empress Garden from 9 am to 9 pm till Sunday
