Jazz By the Way

New York Round Midnight Orchestra, whose hits include ‘Mood Indigo’ and ‘Sing Sing Sing’, is a big swinging jazz band that performs to large crowds. Their roots are in The Netherlands but they evoke the golden era of jazz from the clubs around Broadway, New York. Koh Mr. Saxman is a Thai saxophone player and founder of the Saxophone Community in Thailand. His songs include ‘Jazz Man’ and ‘Love Song’. A girl called Aya likes sleeping in the sand and picking coconuts She has spent her entire life on an island off the Ivory Coast. But when the water level begins to rise and the island slowly sinks into the sea, what can the inhabitants do? Aya, a film by Simon Coulibaly Gillard, is part of the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin. Sihar Uthi Thi Maut Yahan, a Hindi play that is based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, had won in five out of eight categories at the 61st Maharashtra Rajya Natya Spardha 22-23. The play by Swatantra Theatre will open a festival to celebrate World Theatre Day on April 21 at 5 pm. The other plays are An Evening with Chekov, based on short stories by Russian writer Anton Chekhov, on April 21, 8 pm, the Partition drama Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya Woh Jamaya Nai on April 22, 5 pm; and the satire on corruption and red tape called Taj Mahal Ka Tender on April 22, 8 pm. A stellar cast of Lillete Dubey, Ira Dubey and Joy Sengupta has explored a range of humans emotions that were shaped and reshaped within the four walls of a home during the Covid years in their play Vodka and No Tonic and Other Stories, which will have its Pune premiere. Santoor player Ninad Daithankar, who is a recipient of the City-NCPA scholarship, will attempt something different at his concert, titled ‘Sukoon’.
