Workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday gheraoed the chief of the civic octroi collection department Hemant Nikam alleging that the octroi department was not doing enough and letting go many tax evaders scot-free.

WORKERS of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday gheraoed the chief of the civic octroi collection department Hemant Nikam alleging that the octroi department was not doing enough and letting go many tax evaders scot-free. MNS has also threatened to seal the octroi office,which it has decided to do after providing an evidence of tax evasion,or after nabbing the tax evaders. MNS leader and corporator Ravindra Dhangekar told this to reporters after the gherao.He also said that the party workers were going to submit a memorandum of demands to the civic commissioner Mahesh Zagde to keep a tab on octroi evasion.

One booked for using tampered passport
The Airport police have booked an unknown person for allegedly trying to travel abroad on a tampered passport. According to the police,on September 29,the person came to the counter of Lufthansa Airlines and submitted his visa documents and passport,to go to Frankfurt. The airlines staff found his credentials suspicious and approached the airport police. The person,meanwhile,had fled from the spot. The passport carried the name of Venkateshwaran Sugumar of Madurai. On further enquiry,it was found that the passport originally belonged to a woman named Rani Dheval from Madurai. ENS
