Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad is in talks with Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (MSCERT) based in the city to jointly make a giant database of innovations done by state teachers in the field of education.
IIM Ahmedabad and State Innovation and Research Foundation (SIRF),Solapur, are the pioneers of this initiative. We had two meetings in August and September with the officials from IIM-A and SIRF regarding this. It is a very good initiative, which will encourage teachers in opting for innovative methods. We are in the process of tying up with them, said N K Jarag,Director,SCERT,Pune.
Started in 2006,SIRF is a voluntary teachers organisation that encourages teachers to come together and innovate in teaching. It mostly comprises teachers from Zilla Parishad schools. In 2003-04,I got the innovation award by IIM.I thought we should have something like this in the state. In 2006,this organisation was founded by teachers. This year,we thought of making an Education Innovation Bank. This will be a database of all innovations done by teachers, said Sidharam Mashale, member,SIRF.
Two workshops were also organised by IIM-A and SIRF at two District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET).
The first such workshop was held in Osmanabad DIET. Around 500 innovative methods were collected. The second workshop was held in Thane DIEt. It was a two-day workshop wherein the first day the teachers were given training and the second day they were asked to fill a form detailing the various new methods they adopt. One such workshop will be held in all DIETs,including the one in Pune soon, said c,Principal,DIET Osmanabad.
