Using a wooden plank, forest officials managed to remove the hyena from the drainage tank around 9:45 pm. A team from the state forest department rescued a ‘taras’ (hyena) from a drainage tank in a residential society located in the village of Ale, Junnar taluka, in Pune district, on Friday.
At around 8:30 pm on Friday, forest officials received a call reporting that a hyena had fallen into the drainage tank of the Akash Ganga society in Ale.
Soon after, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Vaibhav Kakade, along with his team comprising foresters Santosh Salunke and Kailas Bhalerao, reached the spot.
Using a wooden plank, they managed to remove the hyena from the drainage tank around 9:45 pm. Subsequently, the hyena was released back into the forest.
“The drainage tank was covered with a tin shed that had got rusted. When the Hyena came over the tin shed, it broke down and the animal fell into the drainage tank. The hyena was not able to come out of the drainage water. We rescued the animal safely using a wooden plank. Instructions have been given to the residents to cover the drainage tank properly,” said RFO Kakade.
