The Deol family immersed late legendary actor Dharmendra’s ashes in the Ganga at Haridwar on Wednesday morning with proper rituals amid tight security. Videos of Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Karan Deol and other members of the family getting emotional as they immersed Dharmendra’s ashes at a VIP ghat have surfaced online.

The video shows the Deol family members dressed in white robes. They were seen visibly emotional as they immersed Dharmendra’s ashes and were also seen hugging each other. The Deol family had arrived at Pilibhit House in Haridwar, a 100-year-old mansion on the banks of the Ganges, to perform Asthi Visarjan. This is the same hotel where the late actor’s ashes were kept. After the immersion, Dharmendra’s family immediately departed from the hotel for the airport.

On Tuesday, the family had arrived at Haridwar to perform the asthi visarjan. Viral videos had shown Sunny Deol drinking tea on the balcony of the hotel.

Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89 after suffering from age-related ailments. His last rites were performed at Mumbai’s Vile Parle crematorium. However, his funeral was quiet and quick, and the media was kept away. Two prayer meets were organised after the actor’s death — one by Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol’s family, sons from Dharmendra’s first wife Prakash Kaur, and the second prayer meet was organised by his second wife Hema Malini and their daughters Esha and Ahana Deol.

Filmmaker Hamad Al Reyami recently shared his conversation with Hema Malini at the prayer meet, where the actor shared her regret that fans could not meet Dharmendra a final time due to the private funeral. She also shared that the decision for Dharmendra’s funeral to be quiet and quick was taken by the members of his first family.

She said, “Then she added, with deep sadness, that she regretted his fans hadn’t had the chance to see him one last time. And she said to me in a motherly tone: ‘Dharmendra, throughout his life, never wanted anyone to see him weak or ill. He hid his pain even from his closest relatives. And after a person passes away, the decision rests with the family’.”
