In a programme arranged by the Pune Police Study Circle,Dattaji Kohinkar delivered a lecture on vipassana and its benefits to the city police staff. He spoke about it helping keep anger,misleading guidance,consumption of intoxicants,and such bad habits away. ACP Kalidas Suryavanshi,Dr. Sanjay Gaikwad of B.J.Medical College,Senior Police Inspector Manikrao Akolkar,Police Inspector (crime) Popatrao Thube,Constables Bapurao Mohite,Vinod Patil,Gajendra Sakhare,Subhash Sarvagaud,Suresh Sali and other police officers were present at the event.

Obesity clinic

Dr Shashank Shah and Dr. Jayashree Todkar have been involved with a programme for the comprehensive treatment of obesity and related diseases in Ruby Hall Clinic since 2003. This is the first centre in India to have started this programme. The multi-disciplinary team is the first one to have fulfilled international guidelines for starting a obesity clinic. They have also launched an awareness project called ‘Mission Obesity’.

Innovation award

Sharp Health Care promoted SHARP-SUVED (Sanjeevan Heart Attack Rehabilitation Program and Ayurvedic formulation SUVED),an integrative system of treatment for heart attack,thrombotic stroke,IHD and PAD,has been awarded one of the most coveted National innovation awards during the National Fair finale of the India Innovation Initiative (i3). The competition saw over 52 best-in-class innovation entries,from among a total of 1000,battling it out for top honours.

Courses in genetics

Expertise regarding genetics exists in conventional universities,but the basic sciences people usually work on animal and plant genetics as they do not have enough exposure to medical genetics. To fill this lacuna,the Department Of Genetics Biochemistry and Immunology of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS),has started two foundation courses. Certificate Course in Medical Genetics (CCMG),and Certificate Course in Reproductive Genetics (CCRG). CCMG is for general medical genetics,while CCRG is targeted towards doctors and lab workers involved in the field of gynecology,obstetrics and infertility.

Homeopathy seminar

The Pune chapter of the ‘Appreciating Homeopathy’ group recently organised a seminar to discuss the latest advancements in the field of Homeopathy. Dr. S.P.S Bakshi,president of Homeopathic Medical Association of India and CMD,Bakson’s group Ltd.,spoke about the distinct new approach adopted for the manifestations and management of allergy on the musco-skeletal system,gastrointestinal system,respiratory system and the skin.

Angioplasty workshop

Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital recently successfully conducted a cardiology workshop on complex angioplasty. Pune-based Dr Rajiv Sethi,a senior interventional cardiologist,and his team,along with Dr Alfred Galassi,an interventional cardiologist from Italy,performed six complex angioplasty procedures at the hospital.
