Political party workers ransack school, blacken face of teacher; lab assistant arrested for rape
A mob comprising mostly BJP,Shiv Sena and the Patit Pavan Sanghatna (PPS) workers on Saturday ransacked the St Hildas School at Guruwar Peth and blackened the face of a teacher, after the mother of a class V student complained that her daughter was raped by a lab-assistant,Kailsas Kisan Nemjade,on Wednesday. The girl had kept silent and her mother had come to know of it from the girls friends.
She filed a complaint with the Khadak police station on Friday evening. The complaint stated that lab assistant Nemjade (47),who was arrested late on Friday evening, had taken the 12-year-old girl to the science lab, locked the door and gagged her before raping her.
According to the statement of victims mother, the girl disclosed the incident to her friends who prodded her to know why she was sitting quietly in the school after the incident. The victim, who was in shock, told them about the incident. Later, three of her friends approached the mother and informed her of the matter. She consulted her family and approached the school principal. The principal reportedly told her that she was on leave and the issue would be taken up when she rejoins duty on Monday.
However, workers of political parties gathered at Khadak police station on Friday, demanding immediate action against Nemjade and the school authorities. A police team led by senior police inspector Ganpat Nikam arrested Nemjade from his house at Lakshman Sarode chawl,Wanavdi,on Friday night.
Around 10 am Saturday, the mob entered the school, pelted stones at the school bus, school board and damaged flower pots. The mob blackened the face of a school teacher who was nearby. Local leaders of BJP,Sena,PPS and women from Akhil Bharatiya Janawadi Sanghatna demanded action against the principal and teachers who knew about the incident but did not take immediate action against the suspect.
Inspector Nikam said school authorities had not approached them with any complaint against any political activists. We have been told they are holding a meeting. If they file a complaint,we will look into it, Nikam said.
Nemjade (47) was produced in court on Saturday. he will be in police custody till March 1. The police wanted Nemjades custody for his medical test and to investigate whether anyone else was with him when the crime had taken place.
His brother Vijay told mediapersons that Nemjade had been working with the school for the past 16 years and had there had been no complaints against him. Eight days back, the principal had allegedly threatened to dismiss him. Some staff members had also sidelined him because of his caste, he alleged.
