Top chefs,industry experts and celebrity foodies celebrate their passion for food at the Uppercrust Food and Wine Show.

Food and beverage stalls – 29 in total – tempted visitors. At one end,Chef Roberto Boggio of Le Meridien and Chef Asha Khatau conducted workshops on Italian food and cheese delights respectively. Kavita Amarnani of Kwizzine gave an interesting talk on bartending and bar essentials. The first day of the Uppercrust Food and Wine Show at The Westin,Koregaon Park,lived up to expectations. This annual event organised by the Uppercrust food magazine has finally come to the city after touring Mumbai,Bengaluru and Hyderabad over the years. The festival will go on till Sunday.

“Our aim is to bring together national and international vintners and distillers,top chefs,renowned restaurateurs,critics,celebrity foodies and market leaders in the food and beverage industry on a common platform. Here,they can explore new products and introduce our tastebuds to new cuisines and innovations,” said Farzana Contractor,editor,Uppercrust. The show was inaugurated by Rahul Bajaj,chairman and managing director of the Bajaj Group. “I am dissapointed by Farzana’s delay of bringing such a wonderful festival to Pune but glad that it is being hosted here this year,” said Bajaj as he visited the food stalls and gave the volunteers tips on marketing tactics.

The highlight of the show is the ‘Mystery Basket’ cookery contest today. This will feature Chef Ravish Arora from Polka Dots,Chef Shailendra Kekade from Stone Water Grill,Chef Santosh Jori from The Westin,Chef Hemant Mehta from Hyatt Regency Pune and Chef Anthony En Yuan Huang from Ista Pune. They will use their culinary genius to create an impromptu recipe with surprise ingredients given to them on the spot. It should be fun to watch them battling it out.

Other highlights include Chef Vicky Ratnani’s workshop on ‘The License to Grill’,talks on Kolhapuri cuisine by Chef Elangovan Shanmugam,Cooking with Prunes by Aditya Bal and a grape stomping festival.
