Education officers to meet through video conferencing, state govtapproves Rs 21.31 cr for the project

The concept of video conferencing which was till now limited to the corporate sector is gradually making its way in government divisions and sub-divisions. Under educational scheme Eduset, the state government has approved Rs 21.31 crore to start video conferening facility at 458 centres in the state.

The video conferencing scheme is aimed to facilitate two-way interaction between district and taluka-level education officers in the state. “The proposal was submitted around six months ago. It will be implemented within a month. The instrument will be installed in 408 blocks in the state and will help the officers hold meetings and discussions,” said Shreedhar Salunkhe, director,Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training,(MSCERT),the apex institute that provides academic support and improvement to primary education in Maharashtra.

Some of the officials who will be able to avail of this service include 33 education officers that come under District Institute of Education and Training (DIET),eight directors of departmental education, chief secretary of school education department, ministry of school education, director of secondary and higher secondary education, state minister and so on.

Salunkhe said the Eduset scheme will help in saving time and will lead to faster execution of policies. Besides,it will also bring a lot of transparency in the work culture,he added. “Even to discuss a small educational plan, the officers had to travel from places like Gadchiroli or Loni-Kalbhor to Pune or Mumbai. The discussion or consultation was followed by several other visits for further course of action till it reached the state of finalisation. The amount spent on these visits will be saved henceforth,” said Salunkhe.

Dattatreya Shendkar, education officer,Zilla Parishad, has welcomed the move. He also hopes that the move and the technology will increase efficiency of the district and taluka level officers. “Video conferencing will take the current mode of working to a different level. Major decisions, which would have otherwise taken more than three-four months, will be taken in just three to four video-conference meetings.”
