With the city experiencing showers on Sunday evening, the dry spell seems to have ended

With the city experiencing showers on Sunday evening, the dry spell seems to have ended. As forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD),the city is expected to see more rainfall in the coming days. However, the Met department has not said anything about advancement of monsoon into other parts of the country.

“If it continues to rain over the next few days, revival of monsoon can be expected soon.

Usually, monsoon reaches central Maharashtra by June 15. This year, however,it reached only on June 21. So far, there is an 11 per cent deficit in rainfall in this region,” said an IMD official. He added that except for Konkan and Goa,which received 20 per cent excess rain, most of the state and neighbouring areas have had deficient rainfall this year.

While there is a 51 per cent deficit in Marathwada,Vidarbha has 14 per cent deficit. From June 1 to July 1,the city has received only 34.5mm of rain. The normal rainfall till July 1 is 140.9 mm.
