Taking all this into consideration we have increased number of downloadable apps available with us to a substantial number,” says an official from one of the leading service providers.

The reasons responsible for putting Pune on the list vary from the tech-boom among youngsters,cheap rates of the downloads and their increased availability. “It’s available at as low as Rs 5,so why not download? And with the world becominign a smaller place owing to the technological advances,it also helps keep me updated and in touch with my friends. Moreover,a number of applications are also available for free,”says,P Raunak a student.

It was also pointed out by the official of the service provider that Pune’s student population is also one factor that adds to the growing number of downloads. “Apart from other cities like Bangalore,Jaipur,Ahmedabad and Thiruvananthapuram,Pune being an educational hub attracts youth from all parts of the country and the world and hence comes out as a good business destination for service providers,who really have something to offer. Our target segment is between the age group of 18 to 26 years,” she states,adding that approximately 10 per cent of the total downloads happen in Maharashtra and Pune contributes 4.5 per cent to the total downloads. Hence,45 per cent of the downloads in Maharashtra happen from Pune.
