When he died from prostate cancer in 2002,BV Karanth left behind a formidable legacy for contemporary Indian theatre. That legacy was published in his autobiography that he had narrated to writer Vaidehi in Kannada. Now,the book has been translated into English called,Here,I Cannot Stay: There,I Cannot Go. The translators are Professor CN Ramachandran and Padma Sharma. The title of the book is a translation of a famous philosophical Kannada statement,which means having a desire to explore new things,which Karanth was always striving for, said Ramachandran,at the launch of the 500-page autobiography at the National School of Drama,Delhi,where the theatre luminary had been an alumnus and then,a director. The book includes details of his personal life,his struggles,and his admiration for great writers and poets.
