SSC: Two city girls make the cut

Two girls from the city,Priyanka Bansod and Valentina D’Mello,have been selected for short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army. They stood seventh and 10th respectively in the All India merit of the SSC women (Technical) in electronics and computer science technology categories. Lt Col Pradeep Brahmankar,director,Apex Careers said,“It is a matter of pride not only for us but for the entire city that two girls from here have been selected to join Officers’ Training Academy (OTA),Chennai. Priyanka is a resident of Katraj and has done her engineering from Bharati Vidyapeeth,serving presently in an IT company in Hinjewadi. “I do not have any defence background. Today,my parents are happy. It is like a dream come true for them too. Now they are eager to see their daughter in uniform with stars on her shoulders,she said. Valentina’s father John D’Mello is a police constable and she said,“ I have been attracted to the Army’s discipline .”

Octogenerians of IAF felicitated

Octogenerians of the Indian Air Force were honoured recently at a function organised by the air Force Association. The event that took place at the Lateef Hall at Lohegaon witnessed felicitation of five octogenerians- three senior officers and two non commissioned officers. A large number of serving and retired fraternity was present on the occasion. Air ice Marshal (retd) K G Bewoor was the chief guest of the function along with group captain Marwah who threw light on various activities of the branch along with reading out the profile of octogenerians to be felicitated at the event Air Commodore N S Bhagwanani,Wg Cdr Dr M S Naravane,sqn ldr V G Bhagat,ex sgt B Y Thatte and ex cpl A D Badalkar were felicitated.

Sword of honour for city youngster at OTA

Lt Apurva Kishor Dabhade of Pune led the Passing out Parade of Chennai- based Officer Training Academy (OTA) on March 19. Dabhade was also awarded the Sword of Honour for being the best all rounder cadet at the OTA. Lt gen Arvindarsingh lamba reviewed the PoP that marked the passing out of 159 officers and 60 lady officers. Dabhade,a student of Pune based NMV High School passed his Bsc from Fergusson College. He was selected after SSB from Bhopal.
