Long-pending demands ignored: PUCTO chief

The Pune University College Teachers’ Organisation (PUCTO) staged a demonstration in front of the office of the vice-chancellor of University of Pune (UoP) the other day to press for various pending demands.

These include paying the private college teachers as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission (SPC).

PUCTO member Milind Wagh, who is also part of the UoP senate, said around 250 teachers participated in the demonstration.

“College teachers teaching in private colleges are also eligible to get salary as per the recommendations of the SPC. However, they are still deprived of their right, which is unfair,” he said.

“The teachers also demanded guidelines for transfers within the colleges of the same educational institute and suggested a statute to be framed in the Maharashtra University Act in this regard,” said Wagh.

Issues such as delay in completion of the restoration work of the varsity main building, pending social audit of Samartha Bharat Abhiyan, irregularities in PIO admissions and incomplete process of elections of various boards of studies and deans were also raised,he said.
