Mayor hits out at civic admn over negligence on BRTS

Accusing the civic administration of negligence in ensuring safety of citizens on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) that led to the death of two youths,Mayor Chanchala Kodre on Friday demanded action against officers concerned. “The absence of traffic wardens at road crossings was brought to the notice of the PMC. However,no measures have been taken on the BRTS route,” she said,adding the civic administration should carry out drives for safety of citizens and appoint traffic wardens.

Petition challenging RTE to be heard on Nov 27

The Bombay High Court has announced the next date of the hearing for the writ petitions filed by Bishop’s School,St Mary’s School and SV Union School challenging the applicability of the Right To Education Act,2009,on them,as November 27. “All the arguments are over from the respondent’s and petitioner’s sides. Now,the final verdict will be made,” said Nilesh Borate,a respondent. The schools had challenged the applicability of the 25 per cent reservation under the RTE Act,stating they were unaided minority schools.

65 penalised for underage driving

The traffic control branch of the Pune police on Friday conducted a drive against underage bike riders and four-wheeler drivers,and penalised 65 children. DCP (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said,“It is unfortunate to see that despite reports of road mishaps,parents permit children below 16 to drive.” The police collected fine to the tune of Rs 31,000.
