Additional District Collector Ganesh Patil on Thursday said that cable operators may get 15-day extension to install set-top boxes. While addressing the media,Patil, who held a meeting with the Multi-System Operators (MSOs) earlier in the day, said that the extension comes in the wake of order issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). He,however, said that he was yet to receive the official order.
He said the slowdown in the supply of the set-top boxes was due to winter holidays in China and the supply has picked up now. Many MSOs complained about the paucity of set-top boxes, he said.
Patil said of the 11 lakh cable users in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad,6.5 lakh are unaffected as they use direct to home (DTH) service. Of the remaining users, around 80 per cent have got set top boxes installed. Patil ordered the cable operators to finish the remaining installations within two weeks.
