Bhimsen Joshi critical

Bhimsen Joshi (89),Hindustani classical vocalist and recipient of the country’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna,is critically ill and is on life support system at Sahyadri Hospital,Karve Road.

According to Dr Ashish Jaiswal,head of medical services at Sahyadri Hospital,the celebrated vocalist was admitted on

December 31 with bilateral pneumonia and bleeding in gastro-intestinal tract.

He was put on dialysis once and he showed signs of recovery,said physician and intensivist Dr Atul Joshi. “However,since the last three-four days his condition has worsened. Joshi continues to be on ventilator,” said Joshi.
