Belt it right

“High-waist belts lend class to the outfit. You can style a plain blouse by passing a narrow high-waist belt round it. My personal favourite is wearing a long top with slacks and then a medium-broad belt. Browns,blacks and reds are the safest colours to choose. They match with just about anything,” says working professional Devika Nair. While the belts add style to one’s attire,they also accentuate the waist and bust. “And it’s for this reason that you should avoid wearing these belts if you are plump around your tummy,” Nair adds.

These belts,that are now available in brighter colours and bolder prints,have been tempting avid shoppers. Be it the small stores lining streets or the jazzy uptown boutiques,the belts continue to be in the spotlight in the accessories section. Ravneet Gurudatta,owner,100 Degrees Boutique,says,“The belts are best teamed with dresses and long tops. Whether broad or narrow,it’s always better to pick one with a buckle or bow. Tiger print belts have become quite the rage now.”

There are some who accept trends lying down while others who keenly lend their own style to it. Designer Swati Dholepatil is one of the latter. While she says that the very broad high waist belts are not the taste of the season,she does dive into details about the narrower ones that appeal to her fashion palate. “Delicate belts over floral shirts or pretty,feminine dresses are very in right now,” she says,adding,“In fact,when the temperatures dip,one can even wear a cardigan or a smart jacket and run a narrow belt around it. It looks smart and is a different way of flaunting the trend.”
