In a city where a rock band is born almost every month the unconventional career of band manager hits a high. While in some bands one of the members doubles up for a manger in some the role of the band manger becomes as extensive as it can. City’s very own S.I.L.V.E.R that brought back the crowning glory – the I Rock Finals had a manger for a couple of months to manage their tour. Varun Joseph,a friend as well as a person with a sound knowledge of event management became the band’s support system. “For a band manager it is very important to be the band’s best critic as well as fan. You have to be a part of the band even though you don’t posses any of their talents. Basically you do the running around for them and if the band will not have a manager then instead of rehearsals the band’s time will definitely be wasted in arranging things. You mange their contacts,follow up their money matters,” says Joseph who handled the band’s tour just after their prestigious win.

The bands unanimously agree to the urgent need of a band manager. The functioning of a band as they claim is pretty smooth with them around. Tungztn a city based band has its sound ad manager doubling up as a band manager. Marzban Irani who ensures the proper functioning of technical equipment for sound describes himself as a low key band manger of Tungztn. “A professional band manager probably dons more hats than me but I manage the contacts and the cash flow for them. Also I am the link between the event managers and the band. I am with the music industry for years now and I see this whole trend of band manager and management catching up very fast,” says Irani.
