Azmi seeks fair probe

Samajwadi Party state unit chief Abu Asim Azmi has sought fair and independent probe into the Mantryalaya inferno, claiming that “people believed that the incident was not an accident”.

Samajwadi Party (SP) state unit chief Abu Asim Azmi has sought fair and independent probe into the Mantryalaya inferno, claiming that “people believed that the incident was not an accident”.

Addressing a press meet Azmi said,“Nobody believes that the Mantralaya fire was an accident. Citizens think that the offices were burnt down deliberately. A detailed and fair probe should be conducted in the incident and those found guilty should be sent to jail.”

Azmi said there was a misconception among people of the state that SP was a party only for Muslims

“SP is a secular party, unlike the Congress and NCP that use secularism only to get votes.” He said that after obtaining majority in UP,the party would now concentrate on issues of farmers. “In Maharashtra, which calls itself a progressive state,a farmer commits suicide almost every day. In Uttar Pradesh, our government has come up with schemes for farmers including easy loans, provision of electricity, water, seeds and fertilisers. We will now launch a campaign in Maharashtra to improve the condition of farmers,” he said.

Referring the case of Qateel Siddiqui who died in a city jail this month,he said,“The police are putting innocent Muslim youth behind bars on fake charges. Terror has no religion, but it seems that the government has associated it with only Muslims.”
