It will be more than just a tribute. For the members of Rolling Stone, rendering some of Nirvanas greatest tracks, such as Nevermind,All Apologies and Smells Like Teen Spirit,to name a few will prove to be a presentation of the melodies through which they have musically matured. The group comprising of well-known musicians like Luke Kenny of Rock On! fame on vocals,Vinayak Pol on drums,Denzil Mathias on guitar and Dibyajoti DJ Nath on the bass guitar will be in the city for a tribute to Nirvana at the Hard Rock Café. Guest singers like Shefali Alvares,Sid Coutto and Lionel Mascarenhas will also join the band.
This gig is a part of the series of events that have been organised as a lead-up to the Jack Daniels Rock Awards, which will be held in three months. The band has already performed a tribute to Led Zeppelin in Delhi and Dire Straits in Bangalore prior to this one. Along with our own music,we try to incorporate local musical talent as well by inviting guest performers of the city. Everyone has their own rendition and interpretation of the music, which creates a great atmosphere, says Luke Kenny, the lead vocalist.
The rock scene in Pune is really great,we have got an excellent response whenever we have performed here in the past. Besides, there are also a lot of Nirvana fans here,so we have no doubt that our performance will be well-received, adds Vinayak Pol.
Kenny lists In Bloom,Come As You Are and Polly as his favorite Nirvana tracks, while Pol likes song such as Smells Like Teen Spirit,Breed and Lithium.
Nirvana burst onto the scene at a time when the world was getting saturated with pop music, where looks and glamour are much more important than the actual music. They showed the importance of good songwriting as opposed to production value, took our generation back to the grassroots level of punk rock with their straight,in-your-face kind of music, adds Kenny.
All the members of the band have grown up listening to Nirvana songs, and this music means as much to them as it does to the fans that they will be performing for. Pol,the drummer of the band, also agrees. As musicians,we appreciate the kind of music that Nirvana have produced, because it is very powerful and has a real energy to it, he says.
