Eight candidates in the district have been issued showcause notices for not declaring their expenses as per norms set by the Election Commission.
As many as seven candidates in Pune constituency and one in Shirur had not submitted the details of their expenses by the first deadline of April 11. This has forced the returning officers of the constituencies to issue showcause notices to them.
The defaulting candidates include People Guardian Partys Arun Bhatia,Bhripa Bahujan Mahasanghs Tatya Gulab Waghmode and Independent candidates Nissar Khan,Popatrao Chavan,Manohar Gavali,Raghunath Kamble and Kalu Pawar in Pune and Independent candidate Kondibhau Abhang in Shirur. Officials said complaints will be filed against them who are punishable under Section 171 (I) of the IPC.
Among those who have submitted the account of their expenses include BSPs DS Kulkarni in Pune who topped the list with Rs 4.08 lakh being spent from the time he filed nominations and Supriya Sule,in Baramati,who showed an expenditure of Rs 3.37 lakh.
NCPs Maval candidate Azam Pansare has shown an expense of Rs 2.57 lakh while Shiv Senas Gajanan Babar has accounted Rs 2.33 lakh. Congress candidate Suresh Kalmadis expenses are Rs 1.24 lakh,BJP candidate Anil Shiroles Rs 67,627 and MNS candidate Ranjeet Shiroles Rs 77,878. Kanta Nalawade,BJP candidate in Baramati,has shown expenses of Rs 36,997 while BSP candidate Vivek Kudale accounted Rs 40,289.
The candidates are supposed to show consolidated amounts till April 23. It is mandatory for the candidates to submit the record to the respective returning officer, an official said. Each candidate can spend up to Rs 25 lakh.
