Gutkha worth Rs 2.86 lakh seized
Food and Drug Administration officials on Friday seized gutkha worth Rs 2.86 lakh from two locations in the city. Dilip Sangat,assistant commissioner said police seized packets of Vimal and Goa brands of gutkha worth Rs 44,700 from one Sai Enterprises at Somawar Peth and pouches worth Rs 2,41,290 from Choice Enterprises in Camp. “After getting a tip-off we raided the shops and booked the owners under Food Safety and Standard Act (FSSA). It seems the banned material was smuggled in the city from Karnataka,” he said.

Post-monsoon showers on Friday
Pune city witnessed post-monsoon showers on Friday owing to the cyclonic circulation of Nilam on the eastern coast. With a low pressure at Rayalseema and rising moisture in the air,Pune and surrounding areas received 0.2 mm rainfall in the afternoon. Minimum temperatures shot up to 19 degree Celsius. The Met department has forecast a rise in minimum temperature for Saturday while there is likely to be dip in temperatures from Sunday. Solapur and Kolhapur also witnessed light showers on Friday.
Chris Lowney to conduct workshop
Dr. Chris Lowney,author of Heroic Leadership’ will host an international workshop on November 4 and 5 themed ‘Heroic Leadership for New Era’ at St Vincent College of Commerce. The workshop is being organised in association with the Pune Jesuit Province & Secretariat for Ignatian Spirituality in South Asia (JIGSA). Poona Merchants Chamber targets record-book ladoo sale this Diwali
With the Poona Merchants Chamber entering its silver jubilee this year,the members have set a target of selling 2.5 lakh kg ladoo and chiwda during the Diwali season. The Chamber is aiming at entering the Guinness Book World Records for ‘Largest Serving Ladoo’. The attempt will be open for public viewing from 10 am and the ladoos included in the attempt will be distributed free to public and NGOs working in the social,educational and medical fields after the inauguration. In a press note issued by president Ajit Setiya and project in-charge Rajesh Shah,the chamber stated they would start the sales from November 6 and it will continue till November 13. The programme will be inaugurated by Commissioner of Police Gulabrao Pol at Oswal Bandhu Samaj Karyalaya,Seven Loves chowk. The sale would be at Oswal Bandhu Samaj Karyalaya,Shankarsheth Road,the Poona Merchants Chamber Market Yard,Grahak Peth,Tilak Road,Jayashri Oil depot,Kothrud,Jagdish Trading company,Hadapsar,Pushpam Gas agency,Bibvewadi. Mayor Vaishali Bankar and president of Vanrai Mohan Dharia will be present.
