He gave to music the genre of bhangramuffin. His tracks – Boom Shack-a-lak and Jump Up – topped charts. Now,Apache Indian is ready to set the ball rolling again with his new album Home Run. He will perform at Area 51,Baner,today to make partygoers groove to his latest mixes.

Home Run is a compilation of new and old Hindi and Punjabi tracks for which he has collaborated with maestros of the Indian music industry like Asha Bhosle and A R Rahman. “I decided to sing a couple of my personal favourite tracks with the artists for this album. There are some pretty old songs which will really appeal to the younger generation. I wanted to celebrate India’s musical past in a new style,” he says.

While working on the album, the singer had his fans in mind. “I wanted to create something that would appeal to both – the people who have appreciated my music when it first hit the music industry and grew up listening to it as well as the younger generation of today that likes the bhangra-reggae-rap genre,” he says. Apache has added his signature touch to ‘Yeh Ladka’ sung by Asha Bhosle in Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (1977) and ‘No Problem’ by A R Rahman from Tamil film Love Birds (1996) in which Apache had danced alongside Prabhu Deva.

Starting a chain of bars in India on the lines of Apache’s Bar in Burmingham is also on the agenda. “I want to give people a place where they can perform music, enjoy drinks and bar food amd just chill. The bar will be one where tourists get a feel of the local communities,” he says. The first of the chain of bars will open in Chandigarh in 2012,followed by one in Mumbai and then Pune,he reveals.
